At St Thomas’, we aim to be provide exceptional outdoor learning experiences where our children can succeed in body, mind, heart and spirit. Our aim is to provide rich and varied outdoor opportunities for our children. Our outdoor provision provides positive learning experiences to support personal development whilst promoting well-being. It supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity.
Our children learn about the natural environment, how to care for and appreciate their surroundings, and how to use their initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others. It nurtures their creativity, as well as providing rich opportunities for their developing imagination, inventiveness and resourcefulness. It supports them in developing their social skills by working in groups, taking turns, sharing resources and collaborating more. It builds our children’s confidence to take risks and meet challenges while learning how to be safe.
Our children have the opportunity to participate in Forest School and Nurture Groups where they explore, play, and develop life-long skills such as: confidence, resilience, independence and perseverance, through both child and adult-led activities, whist making links to the curriculum.
