Implemented in April 2023, St Thomas’ School Street has run successfully thanks entirely to a group of wonderful and dedicated volunteers.
When is our School Street in operation?
Infant Site- 8:30am until 9:00am and 3:00pm until 3:30pm
Junior Site- 8:30am until 9:00am and 3:10pm until 3:40pm
What is a School Street?
A School Street creates a pedestrian and cycling zone. This zone supports active travel and cleaner air by reducing the number of vehicles moving in the area. This creates a safer and more pleasant start and end to the day for everyone in and around school communities. Access to residents and blue badge holders is maintained, but the associated fall in traffic means that children are less exposed to air pollution, and road danger is reduced which makes it safer to walk or cycle to school.
How can I help?
Our School Street relies entirely on volunteers and we are always in need of new volunteers. There are 5 closure points in operation each day, twice a day. Therefore we need 10 volunteers each day- 50 per week! If you would like to volunteer (even if it is just for 1 shift per week) please contact the school office
